How to Crop a PDF's Margins for Free
Why a PDF ends up with too much margin
Scanned documents are the most common culprit — a scanner captures more of the page bed than the actual document, leaving a border of blank space or even the edge of the scanner glass visible. Slide decks exported to PDF sometimes carry wide margins that made sense on screen but waste space in print. Cropping removes that extra margin uniformly, tightening the page around the actual content.
How to crop a PDF online for free
The typical process:
Upload the PDF.
Set how much margin to remove — usually in inches, centimeters, or points, from each edge.
Choose whether to crop every page or just specific ones.
Run the tool and download the cropped file.
Crop by just describing the margin
With FlowPDF, upload the PDF and type "crop half an inch off every page" or "crop the top margin on page 1 only." Measurements in inches or centimeters are converted automatically — there's no unit dropdown to configure first.
A note on what cropping does and doesn't do
Cropping changes the visible page boundary — it doesn't shrink or reflow the content inside it. If you crop too aggressively, part of the actual content (not just margin) can end up cut off the edge of the visible page. It's worth cropping a small, conservative amount first and checking the result before applying a larger crop across a long document.

If the page size itself needs to change — not just the margins — resizing to a standard paper size is the more direct fix. And if the goal is a smaller file rather than a tighter layout, compressing the PDF addresses file size without touching the visible margins at all.
